I don't think that Miley fans are necessarily trying to be her. They might love her show or her music. They might want to have her sense of humor and her spunk and her independence, but I don't think it's harmful to encourage that.

Quite honestly, I enjoy watching her. I totally can see how, if I was eleven, Hannah Montana and High School Musical would draw me in. And with the exception of seventh and eighth grades, I've never tried or wanted to be anything but me.

It may happen sometimes, but I don't think avid appreciation or fandom necessarily requires subjugation of personality. (Though as I've gotten older I've seen it more as passion misplaced, and active life exchanged for a passive one. I am not as much of a 'fan' of things these days.)
