I recently had a civilized yet lengthy discussion with someone from London over at YouTube about gay marriage. He was against the use of the word "marriage" when referring to the gays. I explained that I would be happy if all unions in the eyes of the gov't were called "civil partnerships" (or whatever) and leave it up to the religions to decide what is and isn't "marriage" in their eyes.
