They are dogs and cats that have been taken in off of the streets of Iraq by servicemen/women and cared for and loved for months, sometimes years during tours of duty. When the servicepeople leave, they are often forced to abandon to the streets their companions whom they have come to love as much as we love our own animals. They have a connection which I cannot even fathom. These animals are their
pets they are their
family and they are often their sanity.
This isn't an issue of the number of homeless animals here or anywhere else, nor is it a matter of which ones are most deserving of homes...this is a matter of giving a small piece of hope back to these people who have sacrificed so much and to the animals that helped them cope.
