The LoT line-waiters thought this movie totally sucked. I have no idea whether or not I would "get" the books, but we certainly did not "get" this movie. And it most certainly did not inspire either of us to ever read these books.

Characters were boring or entirely undeveloped. Plot was absent or indecipherable. The entire point seemed to be a thread upon which to hang wry British social observations circa early 80's on.

The first and last 10 minutes were good. Everything in the middle blew.
