You're catching GD disease - it's
capsaicin 
....and you remember the bit on the cooking shows where they say to reduce the heat of the chilli you're making you can remove the seeds.... well it appears it's the white pith
around the seeds that's the worst part.
The funny part is birds can't feel the burning from capsaicin. That's why the eat the chilli fruits and poop the seeds all over, thus making more chillis !!
