Sh*t's gone wrong at nearly every step of this stupid fan replacement. However something actually went right today! As mentioned earlier, the positioning of duct work in the attic made it necessary to shift the entire assembly over by about 8 inches. That meant cutting a new hole in the ceiling.

It had disaster written all over it. First, I'd be cutting a new hole in the ceiling. Second, I most certainly do not have the best tools for the job. My options were a rag tag selection of hand saws NOT designed for clean drywall cutting, and a circular saw. Oh, and because of the (lack of) space in the attic, if I'd have to use the circular saw from below, upside down.

Well, upside down, wrong-handed, and with the safety guard oh-so-perilously tied open, I climbed onto the step stool and fired up the circ saw.

PERFECT cuts, first time. It's literally the one part of this whole ordeal that went ideally, even though it was also the one that seemed the most prone to fail. Go figure.

Unfortunately, after doing the wiring and the duct work, actually mounting the thing to the ceiling joist proved to be a pain. I need to get some better-suited nails for the job tomorrow. So it's not quite done. But I've got tomorrow off, so light at the end of the tunnel (or suction at the end of the duct, I guess)! Then I just need to patch the original hole in the ceiling. We'll see how ugly that looks.

Hopefully I get to start demo on the closet tomorrow also. Whee!
Well done, but I'm expecting a cartoon payoff to this story: that when you finally pull the cord, the fan doesn't move, but the whole house starts spinning around.
