You know, while the layoff itself is obviously a bad thing, I think it's important to always look at the bright side of things.
The silver lining here is that she worked hard at what she did, and was loyal to her company. In that, future potential employers find invaluable and if she plays her cards right, shouldn't have "to" much difficulty in finding a new job.
