Obviously, anytime a coyote is aggressive enough to come after someone there is a very high likelihood of rabies. By nature, they are shy and reclusive- even hunger isn't usually enough to force them to attack unless the prey is smaller and there are no humans around. I'd be very careful, and definitely invest in some spray. Pure ammonia will work as well.
