Interesting. Leading up to this, everyone was saying that the motivation was cost and Intel's ability to provide chips in volume that IBM just can't. However, NPR had a point worth considering. Laptops. With laptops in general gaining market share, and iBook sales being brisk by Apple standards, it's an important market to be thinking about. And Intel is leading the market when it comes to low power consumption chips.
