They solved that by tying up the hands of the girl on the plank, and there's an inserted line where the girl says "my hands are tied, I can't swim".
Seemed solved to me as a child watching it.
I confess, I don't give a crap if my childhoood loves don't seem that great now, I still love them and screw everyone else. (Goonies is still great btw
