That said, I still insist on pronouncing "aloha oe" as "aloha oy" because I think to imagine Hawaiians as the lost race of Jews.
And after an early lifetime of living near Aloha, Oregon, it did take a while before I started pronouncing the h. (The Oregon town is pronounced "uh-low-uh" not "uh-low-hah").
