One of my high school friends had a hard time coming out, but she did to me.

She was seeing someone at the school, so when that ended (the girl probably panicked and maybe even embarrassed or ashamed) and word got out, my friend lost a lot of so-called friends.

Luckily, we became closer, and I still consider her one of the best friends I ever had.

So good for your son's friend that he has at least a couple of people he can trust.
