I enjoyed LOVE, but then - I love The Beatles. It was not the best Cirque show by a long shot, but not as bad as I'd been led to believe. In fact, I kinda liked it and might see it again. High on dance, low on circus skillz, and - of course - no live music and original score. The last is unforgivable, and I hate that it's the trend. Performances to pre-recorded music (even great stuff like The Beatles) is more static and restricted than you might at first imagine.

I guess it works for their shows that are high on choreography, but low on acrobatics that don't always follow a perfectly-timed script. I hear good things about the Elvis show, but I'm not a big Elvis fan. Now, with this latest announcement, I fear Cirque du Soleil has completely jumped the shark.

That's ok, I'm one of their biggest fans - but clearly it's gone on long enough. Their first show in America was way back in 1984 - and I've loved them ever since. A few lower than heavenly points. But mostly hit after hit after hit.

Too bad they're coming to Hollywood with one of their big-budget permanent shows when they're so far past their prime. I didn't much care for Ovo, their new touring show which will hit L.A. next October or so.

I might check out Viva Elvis. If that also suffers from lack of live music, it will be the last such of their shows I'll pay for. That would mean no EmJay show for me. But these are pricey tix, and I don't much like searing disappointment.
