Season 1 followed Dead Until Dark fairly closely, beefing up some characters (for example, Tara and Lafayette are much more prominent in the series).

The second season borrows a couple of themes from Living Dead in Dallas, but is basically a completely separate story line.

We'll see where season three goes.
