Yes, but there's a difference between "It's available if someone bothers to take the time to look for and collect it" vs. "It's handed to them on a silver platter in one convenient place that groups it all together, identifies your social circle, and a list of your interests." One can accept that it's not possible to protect one's information from enterprising spammers that will mine the data while still not wanting to be complicit in making it easier and easier for them to do that mining.
