With gophers, if there's one, there are more. And yes, it stinks to have to deal with them. I keep hoping our cat will start hunting them.
We planted a row of roses, and entirely enclosed the roots in chicken wire. The gopher has checked them out, but can't get at the roots, so it seems to have been successful.
We poisoned the last batch of gophers that were in the lawn. I'm with you on killing them personally... yuck. Good luck with your problem.
