I can relate a bit to the OP.
I found out a week ago or so that the surgeon who performed my life saving surgery in April has developed a rapidly spreading form of cancer in his lymphatic system and lungs, and the survival rate with the treatment (which I'm told is brutal) is only around 15%.
My wife taught his three kids in sixth grade, two of whom are now in college and the other is a sophomore in HS.
Kind of makes the everyday problems not seem so bad, you know. Kind of weird when the guy who did so much for my health and life such a short time ago is now facing his own mortality in such a drastic way.
