Your blood sugars rise overnight because you're not doing any activity. During the day even if you're not exercising you're typing or turning the page in a book or whatever and that all burns a certain amount of carbs. At night even though you're not completely stationary you use a lot less carbs than when you're awake. Maddie's insulin rate at night is almost double what it is during the day to compensate for this.
