Durian is an example where my nasal defenses are valuable (I am not a super smeller and my nose acclimates to strong odors quickly, which made some organic chemistry labs difficult).
It was very pungent when first cut but, for me, that didn't last and while it wasn't something that tasted good enough for me to ever seek out, I didn't think it was awful tasting.
This was at an outdoor food stall in Singapore. Indoor experiences would probably be different.
