Got to see The Golden Horseshoe Revue "salute" last weekend, and it was such a fun trip down sweet memory lane. I wish they would have done "Lookin' for My Big City Beau" as Miss Lilly's big audience participation number, but the one they did was just fine - and in all fairness, that number likely changed many times during the show's record-breaking run.
And many numbers changed during the run - EXCEPT the opening and closing were always the same. They kept the opener, but for some bizarre reason eliminated Pecos Bill as the closer - and all of the Wally Boag part. That was just strange, as it was easily the most popular part of the show. Maybe they felt that Wally Boag could not be imitated, but that Betty Taylor could. Oddly, that left their cowboy with nothing to do, and their tenor with nothing to do, too - as they cut his song also. (Heheh, side note - the actor playing the tenor in the Salute was found on Grindr by Isaac).
So my quibble is - they could have done a full revival of the show by including 2 songs. But it was still ultra sweet, and I'm glad I got to see it at the very end of its limited run.
