Jack Douglas is one of those figures that are very famous when active and then completely forgotten once they stop. I've read a couple of his books. He was a humorist in the way people could be on the old talk shows. Not really a stand up but just came on and was funny.
He wrote a handful of humorous memoirs (kind of a David Sedaris of the '60s and '70s now that I think about it). While I haven't read this one, the first part of the title is a reference to him being Jewish and his wife (who also was someone known though I can't remember her name but have just looked it up and it was Reiko) was Japanese.
The fact that now nobody knows him doesn't bode well for the comprehensibility of Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls in 40 years.
