Maybe you should try some really hip place that cuts those more unusual styles you see in high fashion. Probably will cost more but maybe they'll be willing.
I hate it when people take perogitive and cut my hair differently then what I ask for. I've even brought in pictures of what I wanted and come out with something different. It's a roll of the dice it seems. About half way through one haircut, I noticed that the lady had just graduated and OMG - I should have just gotten up right then and there.
There is one thing though - at least it grows back.
