any 2 digit number can be represented by the equation 10X+Y where X and Y are between 1 and 9.
So, the euqation this time is (10X+Y)-(X+Y). That equals 10X+Y-X-Y, which equals simply 9X. Since X can only be 1-9, the only possible solutions are 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, and 81. So, like scaeagles said, they just seed those 9 numbers with the same symbol and voila, esp.
