Wow, that sounds way too close for comfort. Glad it wasn't more serious and that nobody was hurt. Do you have sirens in your area that warn of impending tornados? I know they are pretty common in the midwest. Of course, if I ever heard one, I would probably wet myself.

I hate tornados.

When i was about 10 years old, my family did a cross-country driving vacation. While going through Nebraska, out in the middle of nowhere, we noticed the skies getting dark very quickly, followed by hail that was large enough to get us to pull over and cover our heads in fear of the windshield breaking. I remember looking out to the side and seeing a large tornado. I have no idea how far it from us. Everything is so flat that it's very hard to tell. My dad ended up turning the car around and we drove back the way we came which appeared to be the safest route. Once we were out of the storm, my dad tried to flag down a car that was going the opposite direction but they didn't stop. We later passed them on the road. Their car was overturned and there were emergency vehicles all around. Scary stuff.

Last year, there was a fierce set of tornados that went through my dad's neck of the woods in Missouri. They absolutely leveled the town next to his and also removed most of the roof from where he works. I wasn't able to get a hold of him for 2 days and ended up contacting the Red Cross to see if they could locate him. He was fine but it was damn scary.

Once more, with emphasis...I hate tornados.
