Awww, this picture reminds me of today's entry on Cute Overload.

For some reason I've been pondering lately why people don't like cats. I always find it interesting when people find out that I have two cats, how many people find it neccesary to tell me that they hate cats, despise cats, don't like cats, etc. Appropos to nothing I usually asked them if they're allergic to cats and more often then not they say yes. But there is often a mention of cats' "attitudes" that I find sort of interesting. I never had much exposure to cats before I "inherited" one eight years ago, so I really don't know if mine are totally out of the ordinary or not. But they're loyal, loving, they respond when called by name (one of them 100%, the other about 75% of the time.) AND, like NA said about not having to take them out to pee, they're extremely low maintanence. I put food out once a day, make sure the water fountain is full, and scoop the litterbox, and they're taken care of until the next day. And, just like Sparky my old Cocker Spaniel, they come running when they hear my key in the door and greet me. Unlike with Sparky, they do so quietly and without getting so overexcited they pee on the floor.

Now, I'm not knocking anyone for not liking cats, I assume that when people say they don't like cats' attitudes, that they are saying so because of specific cats they've had or been exposed too. But my experience with my cats has always been totally different. It just cracks me up how people are so quick to tell me they don't like cats when they find out I have cats. I don't particularly like fish, but if I go to someone's house and they have a fishtank, I don't feel compelled to tell them that.
