When my TV set broke about 4 years ago, and was out of commission for 5 months, I discovered - to my complete amazement - that I could somehow live without the thing that had been ON, non-stop, whenever I was at home. Whether I was watching or not - unless I was listening specifically to music - the TV was on to provide background noise if not entertainment.

I am cured and I am loving it. I watch two TV shows when they air (which is rarely) - 'The Sopranos' and 'Deadwood'. I cancelled my cable TV and have never looked back.

If I am intrigued by friends' tales of a great show, I will patiently wait for the DVDs to come out. I would much rather watch a season all in a batch - with no commerical interruptions - than any other schedule a DVR could devise.
