How I spent my afternoon:
Ryan called parking to see where our new spot would be.
For those of you who haven't spent gobs of time on the UW campus,
a map may be useful.
Old office is at approximately 16L - south campus. Ryan works at 6E - to the west, off-campus. New office is 10L, smack in the middle of campus. Most people who work in Gerberding park in the Padelford garage at P8. Far east end of campus. Fair hike for me, but REALLY bad for Ryan.
So Ryan calls parking and they have *ONE* available carpool spot available in the central garage. Right under Gerberding. I can take the elevator from the garage right up to the second floor. No more walking in the rain! No more dodging basketball traffic! No more losing spots to football vending!
However, I have to trade in my old permit before I can get the new one. No problem, I'll just trot out to the stadium and get my old permit.....except that since the Metro bus incident last week our car's in the shop and we have a rental. With one key. Which Ryan has. At the Roosevelt clinic.
So I run downstairs and out the back just in time to catch the shuttle to the clinic. Run upstairs, get the key, run back down just in time to catch the return shuttle. Dash from back of hospital to elevator, wait for ever, dash through lobby and out to stadium lot, get temp permit for the car so it doesn't get ticketed while I'm exchanging permits, put temp permit in car, take real permit, run (actually, at this point, since I'm wearing my "only wear when I don't have to walk very much" shoes it's more of a slow limp) back to health sciences and up to the parking office.
But I got the permit! Woohoo!
To recap: Boss that isn't deliberately spiteful toward me, workplace that is accustomed to accomodating flexible schedules, job that does not require me to babysit grown women or be present just in case someone wants their ass wiped, more money, primo parking, and Disney-friendly co-workers...
Yes, I'll have to give up having an office. But it wasn't a very good office and as cubes go it's pretty damn nice. Way in the back, new furniture, right next to the big window that *opens*! And since I don't have to wait on people hand and foot, I'm allowed to wear headphones all day.
I'm going to go swoon now.
And then buy a iPod.
