That's why I said "humankind" and not "humans".
As for whether that's sad or not...I think it's simply a fact and not something to feel sorry for ourselves over. What we need to do is figure out what we
can affect and work on that.
Oh, and you can add to the list things like:

as ugly
as cruel
as indecisive
--
That way it's more obvious that we may be as good as we'll ever be but we won't get any worse either.
