I have heard/read numerous accounts of how Earl Woods trained his son to focus. On the golf course, the man was merciless, trying to startle Tiger during his backswing, stepping on his ball in a sand trap, kicking it behind a tree or into the deep rough, etc, etc, etc. If Tiger complained, his dad would get worse. His goal was to get Tiger to be able to focus through any circumstance and be able to get himself out of difficult situations on the course. I am certain this translated well in the classroom and in his personal life, too.
