If MG's kid is in the same program as mine... its a tester program.
Along with giving the 'smarter' kids work at the level they need, they have this pull out time...
My son goes once a week, and its a either a group enviroment, for talking, to help them , in his case him, deal with having to wait for the other kids to catch up to him. Or for the teacher to teach to the other kids before moving on to him.
Since they dont test for GATE till 3rd grade, they cant really segregate the faster kids away from the less than average.
We lucked out last year, and he was in a 1/2 mix, so the not so sharp 2nd's with the sharp 1st's. This year... no such luck.
Anyway... they do this group thing... then they also have like a play room. THis counselor stays with him for an hour.. talks to him, and does whatever he wants to do. None of the time is her choice.
They can play a game, just talk... whatever.
They fell it lets these kids have control over part of their day.
Anyway.. as I said.. her kid may be in a different program.. but thats kind of how ours works.
