I had thought about a squirt bottle with water for some of his other behavioral issues, but not for the barking. He doesn't bark much. Last night (at 1am) the care workers next door were outside, and he freaked and wouldn't shut up. I chained him, which stopped his barking. He then knocked over some of David's car parts and it scared him to the point that he was yelping. I unchained him and calmed him down and he didn't bark again until 8am, when he woke both Nick & I up. This time he was barking at someone moving around in the yard behind us. I think he is becoming more aware of "his" yard. Pooh will do the same thing, but when I say, "Poohdog, hush!" he does. Sox will learn, in time.
I will try the listerine & water. I would only use a collar as a last resort. I would never even consider surgery.
Luckily, they have both gotten tired fomr the heat and they let me take a nap. Now I get to spend the next few hours in the kitchen getting stuff fixed for David's b-day party tomorrow.
