I've watched enough Animal Precint and other Animal Planet rescue shows to know that this isn't uncommon. A dog from a bad environment may seem the sweetest, most loving thing, but feeding can be troublesome. I've seen some adorable dogs turn vicious when you even partially block them from food. I'm sure Sox thought Pooh was a threat to his food.
On the show they use a manniquin hand attached to a pole and try mess with the dog's food while it's eating - often times the hand is broken off. It's heartbreaking, because it's almost impossible to train them out of that one, and they are often put down, no matter how sweet they are otherwise.
