OK, you are kinda confusing me. Let me see if I have this right..

You have an iMac (G3 I'm guessing. They are the colorful ones). OS 9 is installed on it, but you want to upgrade to OS X to go on the internet. But, when OS X is installed, you can't get online.

Can you post the specs on your computer? You should be able to by pressing the Apple logo in the top left of your screen and selecting "About this Mac".

What would be useful is your processor speed, the amount of memory you have, if you have firewire ports, and the version of OS X you are trying to upgrade to.
