Cocktails took us into the evening
Cool,civilized, and sophisticated
But as midnight approached
The witching hour was given its due

The cards released from their leather wraps
Reveled in the dimness of candelight
The folly of our intellect, the struggle
Between the pragmatic and the ideal
The passion's fires that forged us
Yet left us hanging.

So we continued on, on our own
Speaking of our own mysteries,
Private revelations, and personal growth
The demons we face everyday
And those we face at night
When we sleep

There are wild animals within us
Desperate to reveal themselves,
Desperate to protect us,
They slay us with our fears

They attack at night
Hoping we'll take courage
To stop running and face them
And simply challenge them by asking,
Why?
