Amusing Tales From Traffic School

I'm doing an online traffic school course, and one bit made me smile... Of course, there are little gems throughout, but this one made me think of Leno's Monday Headlines.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the following is a list of the top five types of distractions that result in collisions on California's highways:

1. Cell Phones
2. Using the radio or cd player
3. Children
4. Eating
5. Reading

Reading? I suppose... I did see someone full reading a newspaper while on the 405 in traffic once. But damn...

Anyone else see any bizarre road-time habits?

I knew a lady (an IRS agent no less) who traveled a great deal in her car for work. To entertain herself she would prop a romance novel on the steering wheel and read as she drove.

In AZ, a few miles from my home, there are the first speed cameras on a freeway. They do the usual radar check, snap the photo of the driver and license plate thing.

This has led to many amusing things.

One person had the passenger put a coat over their head while passing the cameras.

Another had modified their vehicle with a tremendously long steering column (and presumably gas and brake pedals as well) so that they could drive from the back seat, thereby avoiding having their image in the photo.

Many have taken to driving with masks on, though I suppose that doesn't necessarily increase danger.

I always cringe when I see someone putting on eyeliner when driving. I don't like sharp objects near my eyes in the first place, much less in a moving vehicle.

One of my old neighbors had a curling iron that plugged into the cigarette lighter. She said it was the only way to get her hair done and get to work on time! I said she needed to wake up earlier!
I think watching women put on makeup while driving is scary also.
