My move date is all set

finally, after procrastinating and cogitating on the possibilities, I am going with a mover. Keeping the dining room set, the living room furniture and some small antique end tables/night stands and letting the movers handle the lugging, truck loading and driving to California. It was more expensive than I had anticipated (about 1K more than I expected), but, it will save me untold headaches and it will get the stuff across country safe & sound.

I will be here through 4th of July, then back in CA around the 10th of July and my belongings (except Tango, my art collection, my computer and enough clothes to get me through a few weeks) will follow.

I feel a great sense of relief now that I finally made the decision, Tango will be happier to have some furniture she knows in the new apartment (like the big armchair that is hers alone)

My car is ready for the trek with some new tires, all I need do now is an oil change next week and it is ready to roll. And I have given myself an extra week to get rid of more crap that I don't want or need (and if I move it, I know I will open the box and ask myself, why did I pack this?)

Takes me a long time, but once I do make a decision, it feels good!

I've never regretted calling in the movers - yeah it costs some cash, but I always find when all is said and done that it was a worthwhile investment.

I've done bunch of moves with friends and one move with movers. I'll never go with friends again. It's much nicer to have a team of guys march in with their designated English speaker and wrap all my heavy, awkward stuff in plastic wrap, cart it about, load, unload, put things in the rooms where I want them, and generally save me a whole lot of hassle. Plus, unlike my friends, if they break stuff they have to pay me.

When we last moved, we packed all the small stuff in boxes and moved that ourselves. We left the furniture for the movers. Cut down on the cost of the movers while still saving us from doing the truly hard work.
