Do you decorate for Halloween?
Living in an apartment and being a lazy housekeeper, I don't usually decorate much at all. However, the latest Sunset magazine has yet again provided some great inspiration.
I think Not Afraid should make some of these for her porch. Does anyone else decorate their livingspace for Halloween? |

I like those cats. That's a good idea.
![]() I was going to decorate for Halloween this year, but I'm not going to be in Boston for it any more. The idea was to have a bride in the window. I was going to have my friend Roddy who is an engineer help me with the heartbeat light and sync-ing the heartbeat sounds to the lights. But that fell through. ![]() I love Halloween. Jack-o-lanterns are cool. |

Well, I've lived in a condo for a quarter century, so outdoor decorating has never been much of an option. But feh, when would I ever see that anyway?
For most of the past 25 years, I've interior holiday decorated extensively for both Halloween and Christmas, but it's certainly slacked off with age and been-there/done-that over the past few seasons. I gave it one last hurrah when I started going out with zapppop, but now I'm just too lazy and/or over it. I have an entire closet-full of Halloween decorations. Maybe I'll throw a party someday. |

Living in an apartment, my decorating skills are limited to a plastic pumpkin head hanging on my front door.
When we lived in a residential neighbourhood with a lot of kids, we used to go all out for Hallowe'en decorating. Hallowe'en 1991 (when I was 10) was a memorable year for instance, (though it was a bittersweet one that year, as my grandmother passed away on October 29 of that year). Anyway, at the time, our house was in desperate need of new siding (which we installed the following year), and the tree in our front yard had, well...died. (which we got cut down shortly after that) As a result, our house just happened to look...well...haunted. And, we used that to our advantage. We painted murals on all the windows of our house, we hung stuffed corpses (made out of a jumpsuit and that foam that you use to put down on mattresses to make them softer) in the dead tree along with bats and ghosts made from garbage bags. And, just so the kiddies weren't too afraid, we turned on our white Christmas lights so that our place was well-lit. It turned out incredibly well, and we had the most kids stop by that year than any other.

When we were in the apartment, we'd hang a couple printed cardboard cutouts (a jack-o-lantern and a skull) with a blacklight, and we have a rope light sign that says "eek". Depending on how lazy we were any particular year we might carve some pumpkins of our own. One year we took some clear cellophane, painted it with orange craft paint (why buy orange cellophane when you've got clear stuff and paint lying around?), and covered the exterior lights. It looked great, but there's orange paint on the lights to this day.
I suppose we need to find out what our condo association will allow.
