Sometimes...

I posted this to my LJ the other day, and I figure I could throw it out here... To get this forum rolling again.. Hehehe!

“Those will be someone’s last words, for sure…”
he said as we walked through the park.
But how could I have known
they would be his last to me?
I try to forget the tough times,
the sad times, all the while
just trying to remember the good ones
; and it works
sometimes

It was raining.
A Friday afternoon.
Raincoats on.
Umbrella missing, as usual.
Stepping off the sidewalk
and into the crosswalk.
Wet pavement slip slapping
under well-soled shoes.
Covered shoulders passing covered shoulders
Brushing past
I turned around to see who it was.
And I missed it.
And I miss him.

On sunny days,
as the clouds go rolling by,
I used to make believe what the shapes
in the heavens
meant.
And he did, too.
With the sun gracing our shoulders
and backs, ah yes!
That’s the way it is meant to be.
Meant to feel.
But it’s gone in a flash.
A well-souled person
has only as much time,
as any of us.

And it works,
sometimes.
