They'll never get it, will they?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7048053/

Just when it looked like music file sharing was losing steam, just when the music industry seemed to be getting their heads on straight and figuring out how to appeal to people and make them want to pay for music, now the major studios are grumbling about wanting to raise the price of online downloads. You freaking idiots, what don't you get? For the first time in years, you were making headway, people are being totally receptive to this $1 a song model, it's been exactly what the industry needed...but aparantly that's not good enough for them. Apparantly they're not happy unless they are trying to price consumers out of the market. Maybe they just like whining about piracy and want to give people more reason to go that route.

This sounds like a plan born from greed. Even $1 a song is too high in my opinion but it seems to be a price point that is working. The success of online sales has the industry questioning how they can make just a little more profit though.

At $1 a song the artist probably sees 10 cents? 20 cents? per song sold. The artists label and online retailers take the rest. Here is my open offer to any and all recording artist:

I will double whatever the record company pays you per song sold if you deal directly with me, the consumer. No middleman. I download your music and pay you for it. I'm offering to double your pay.
