It's a Shag, Shag, Shag World

"Meanwhile, Agle moved into a world that had also occupied his imagination as a child, returning to work for Disneyland for its 50th anniversary.

Five paintings based on each of the original "lands" within the park have been painted, as well as a sixth that serves as a Shag map to the original park.

"I remember probably going there every year, from like 4 years old," Agle says of his Disneyland influences. "It's very visually stimulating. It's hard to put into words ... just how important the design is."

For this Disneyland series, artist Mary Blair - creator of the art for the "It's a Small World" attraction - was a particular inspiration, he says.

"There's not a lot of kids in my artwork, so the kids of 'Small World' were definitely an influence on the stuff I'm doing for Disneyland now."
