Proof of insurance for a learner's permit

My daughter has an appt this afternoon to take her written test to get her provisional license (learner's permit).

Do you know if I need to bring proof of insurance for that? My printed copy has, apparently, expired. (not the insurance - just the paper.)

My printer is not working so I'll need to go to staples or something and have this printed. But I'm thinking I may not need it.

I would appreciate a second opinion though. It looks like she needs it for the driving portion of the test but no the written. What do you think?

It seems like if you sneeze at the DMV any more, you need to show POI. But for the written test it seems unlikely. After all, they assume you didn't drive there. When you go for the driving test they want to see it for the car being used for the test, but for written I don't think so. I'd bring the expired just in case, and not worry about it for now if it's impossible to get before going.

And good luck! We are rooting for her!

We're almost to the permit stage. Per my insurance, and that of a friends, you don't have to actually put them on your policy until they actually get the license or are 16 1/2. Proof of insurance isn't one of the items listed to bring for your permit on the DMV website.

We were required in AZ to add our daughter to the insurance but it did not cost anything with our insurance company, as they stated that with her permit she was required to have one of us in the vehicle with her.

I heard the failure rate the first time through was pretty high. A friend said her son missed one because it was about a station wagon and he didn't know what one was

I've found a drivers school for Madz. Only I'm a bad Mom and waited to long to look into things. It's a 4 week course and she hits 15 1/2 on July 8 - meaning she won't be able to get her license on her birthday.

Alex just got his permit last month. He passed it on the first try but his mom made him take a couple dozen practice tests on the computer before he went down there.

Didn't need POI, but we're in Oregon so take that fwiw.

I remember not needing to take a test with the DMV for my learner's permit - as soon as I was enrolled in a driver training course (at our public school no less - ); I was able to get my permit (at 15 years, 2 months). But then, that was back in the day when the internal combustion engine was just getting popular

I made my Mom take me to the DMV on the day of my 16th birthday for my test to get my license; I even demanded to skip school to go in the morning.
