Cartoon musical cues
Also posted on FB, of course.
I couldn't find a playlist featuring the music used in cartoons so I made one. I'd love feedback and more ideas. Feel free to share it. I wrote some notes on individual selections but sadly, it looks like you can only view them when you see the full playlist, and even then they're cut off.

As I posted on FB, I laughed my face off during the first few bars of many of those, with the pleasant recognition of happy cartoon memories. Especially the last piece, which was atypically not a classical tune - but a much more modern jazz piece that had not one, but TWO - to my surprise and delight - cues that were used to death in cartoons. I must get me that one.

I never would have expected you to not know of Powerhouse, and I'm tickled that I got to introduce you to it.
![]() I got turned on to the classics by Academic Decathlon. Many of the assigned classics were totally recognizable by us high schoolers as "Road Runner/Coyote", "United Airlines Commercials", "Beef it's What's for Dinner", etc. I was fascinated by this as I never had suspected that these were classical pieces before they were jingles and backing tracks. In doing more research for this I keep coming across horribly racist beginnings to all kinds of classic songs, like Oh Susanna and Camptown Races, which are both minstrel blackface tunes. Also, when googling something racist, I shudder at what Google's records are saying about me. "Racist Indian war chant" "Stereotypical Indian drum beat" "Prejudice music Indians" All I get is horrible things and I still haven't found the damn tune I want. Some are oddly hard to find, even when you have a title and history out there. There isn't a decent version of "How Dry I Am" on YouTube. Anyone think of anything to add? I'm considering putting in small introductions since I can't get the notes to work the way I want them to. I adore that some of these are hundred-year-old masterpieces and others are simple ragtime ditties and want to talk about origins just a tiny bit.

I thought Over The Waves was an actual song called "Loveliest Night Of The Year"

Um, except that's like saying the song is called "Give Me Those Star Wars" by Bill Murray just because he wrote some lyrics to pre-existing music.
![]() In the case of "Lovliest Night of the Year," the lyrics were added in 1951 to music composed in 1888! I call shenanigans on attributing the title "Lovliest Night of the Year" to that "song." ![]() |

Really - it's like people who insist on calling Comme d'habitude, My Way just because Paul Anka and Frank Sinatra added English Lyrics

I agree with €. I reference the earlier one in my list because that's what I'm going for, original compositions.
I added very short introduction cards to each selection. YouTube doesn't let you make longer ones and I'm no expert at video edits. I also don't want to record me talking about it. I'm going to start posting it to a few more places I figure would enjoy it. I'd appreciate some likes on YouTube as well, if you like it, that is. ![]() I also added a few things so you have to go check it out again ![]()
