Multilinguilism run amok
No real point to this post, I just thought it was funny.
I'm in the shower this morning, and for some reason I noticed the ingredient list on a shampoo bottle. The ingredients were listed, and immediately following in parentheses were the spanish translations of the ingredients. I am sure the spanish speaking people using this product are relieved that when they don't know what "Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium" is, "Cloruro de guar-hidroxipropiltrimonio" is listed as the translation, and most certainly appreciate the translation of "methylchloroisothiazolinone" to "metilcloroisotiazolinona". |

Canadians have been putting up with this(two sets of labels on everything) for decades.
The old Soviet Union did do one thing right.......They had nearly a dozen different major languages within their borders but everyting was labled only in Russian.

HI!

I noticed yesterday that my TRASH CANS have directions (yes, directions!) printed in English, Spanish and Cambodian. Thank You City of Long Beach.

They just replaced the teller machine at my bank and it is now in English, Spanish, Chinese and Russian(maybe). I live in a tiny town in Oregon and wonder if anyone in this town even speaks Chinese or Russian!! It must just be that the new machines have to be bilingual.
Thankfully in Canada most everything was in both languages except the menu my husband was reading. He says "Look honey, they have a souffle here in the Cirque tent!" I tried not to laugh as I explained that maise souffle is just popcorn!!! |

Shampoo... My shampoo is Greek, so it's not surprising to see English and Greek. What surprised me was the third set of ingrediants and directions- German.
