Lurching

[Cadaverous Pallor]

You know when you're almost
asleep
dead body on the bed
but your brain
whirrs into action like some
wind-up toy on a timer
and you know you're screwed

so you get up and think too hard
and your body is pissed
and you get paranoid delusions
and wonder about possible endings
and things you have no reason to think about
won't leave

and then you fire up that desktop
and scrawl mangled words with a keyboard
such neat letters
dropped from a lurching mind

and then you think of someone you haven't talked to in a while
and how you miss them
and how you miss everything
because it's late and that's what you do
when you can't sleep

even if you're actually really happy
with life
as it is now
