Angry I've been robbed!!!

Yesterday when I went to get the mail I found an empty box in the bushes that had been cut open. Inside I found a packing slip addressed to me listing the contents of a package I had ordered from Amazon which were some Ed Wood DVD's but the DVD's were long gone. Thank goodness the DVD's really were not worth that much but as a person who does a lot of on-line shopping it has gotten me to think twice about haveing packages brought to my house. Also I have the creepy voilated feeling, you know how you feel when someone has taken your stuff?

I could have the packages held at my local UPS or FedEx or US mail place but that would kind of derfeat one of the reasons I like to do my shopping online since it is nice to have a package brought right to your doorstep. I have got 3 more things coming in the mail right now that I cannot stop so I put a big sign on my door to let the mail person know to knock on the door before they set the package down. Sometimes in the past they knock but lately they have not.

It sucks too because I am getting all of my back to school clothes online (I just can't find anything I like in my local mall anymore!), so I am not really sure what to do.

Whats really strange is I don't really live in a very bad area, but I guess that does not matter anymore. Anyway I just needed to vent!

This really sucks!

First thing I'd do is call the post office and report the theft. I'm sure there's some sort of procedure that they have for such things. Then I'd call Amazon and report it as well. I've never had this happen to me so I don't know what their policy is, but it's worth telling them.

Is there an angle from a window that you could set up a webcam towards your mailbox? If so, you could do this and even put a small sign on your mailbox saying "you are being filmed" or something. Hell, just stick an unplugged webcam in the window and put up the sign and you're golden.

That sucks. Thieves suck. It isn't the value of what was stolen, it is the fact that it was.

Damn stright!

BTW Good suggestion CP, I don't have a webcam but I do have an old broken video camera. I just set the camera in the window and printed a sign on my computer saying "this area is being video taped!!!" and put it above the camera. I talked to the post office, they can't really do anything but let us log a complaint. They were super nice, which is rare for the Post Office, and said that kind of thing really does not happen very often since it is a federal offence to mess with the mail. I am not going to take anymore chances though since I have some things coming in the mail that are worth a lot more then a DVD and cannot be replaced very easy.

Oh yeah, I also called a local store that buys DVD's and gave him the heads up that if he sees and Ed Wood box set to report it since it is stolen. Since the DVD's are pretty rare I'm sure that if someone comes in trying to sell and Ed Wood box set that would be the prick that stole them. I hope this happens because I want to go judicial on his ass! I am still waiting to here back from amazon though.

Did you buy them with a credit card? If so, check your terms. My lastest card came with theft protection for something like 30 days from purchase. I didn't read the fine print (alas!) so I don't know if it would have covered in this situation, but it's worth a look.

Which doesn't address the nasty "stay out of my mail!" feeling, but it's something to do as a distraction.

First thing you should do ... find some roadkill, put it in the Amazon box and leave it outside your door.

Happened to me last week too: I received an empty box that was supposed to have $70 worth of lipstick in it. I think it's safe to assume the PO did not accept the box for shipment with the neat cut along one side, but they, at some point noticed--because they stamped it "damaged" before delivering it, empty, to me! I doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out the pilfering happened while it was in the possession of the USPS!! Of course the person I bought from on eBay did not offer insurance. Grrr. Won't do that again....

Oh man that sucks Lizzi. In my case I am pretty sure it was somebody in my neighborhood and not UPS since I found the box in a place where should not have been, out in the bushes and not on my doorstep. I think if I thought UPS or FedEx or whoever was caring my mail robbed me I would be even madder . I am so sorry that happend to you .
