![]() I just returned from my LA trip. Did not do much that was swanky, but a dinner at Yamashiros (restaurant is so-so, the view when the lights go down, fabulous and that is what you go there for).
I did enjoy a nice lunch (and cocktails) with some film geek friends at the Kodak Center at a place called Twist. It is in the hotel on the 2nd level and well worth a visit. The food was very good (pan asian) and I enjoyed a dish of grilled ginger peanut chicken with a noodle salad. Not rice noodles, but you put anything in a peanut/cocunut milk sauce and I will eat it, so no real complaints. The decor was nice and trendy and considering it was a Saturday afternoon and the hotel was packed with a convention and tourists, we were about the only patrons at Twist, astounding. Since I was an out of towner, I was treated to some blue cocktails (I think it was their version of a blue crush) and it was potent enough, which is a good thing. ![]() Some might find Twist to be a little on the pricey side (for lunch the average entree was $14 and up) but I did not go away hungry and the service was good, decor comfy and had an appropriate level of trendy swank and I give snaps to the bartender on last Saturday, my cocktail was pretty strong! ![]() Additionally, I had a brief conversation with Not Afraid today, alas, due to my lack or organizational skills (and not having any PC access) we did not connect when I was in LA and for some reason I gave her a wrong number on my cell....but I enjoyed our conversation and I expect we'll be meeting up in October when I return to LA for another research/pleasure trip. Thanks for your review of Twist and welcome home!
We WILL plan a Swank Outing once you know your travel dates. In the meantime, we can compile a short list of places to go. |

Yes, Yamashiro's is definetely more for the view than the food, though I find the food to be notsoterriblybad. I'd go for drinks and a lil' nibble of dessert.
