Wink 10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms--just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

....and there you have it folks ! I hope we all learned something from this.

I've learned a great deal this morning. I'm going to be straight from now on. I'm going to marry the first unmarried woman I see. Women love marriages without lot and lots sex. Despite that, we'll only do it to have lots and lots of kids. Boys preferably. Twins and tripletts are big in my family. She'll do her tupperware parties and I'll do my male friends. I mean, my male friends and I will do what us macho straight men do without women around...

#5 stabs directly at the feeling of most people (even if they can't verbalize it), I think.

When I was last driving home from DL I was alone and so listening to talk radio. The host was saying "I don't care about gay marriage because I don't see how it affects me, and I'm selfish. So, convince me how gay marriage harms me and I'll oppose it."

Pretty much all the people who called in either said that it would lead to more gay people (which is faulty since it requires the assumption that being gay is bad) or that it would devalue his marriage.

Then it occured to me that many people put their marriage in the same category as the value of their home. That its value is intangible and therefore the freedoms of others have to be restricted to help maintain your property's value.

So, the Defense of Marriage Act (and the myriad other similar efforts) are just the marital equivelant of a Homeowners Association that dictates what kind of flowers you can plant in the front yard.

Since the mindset that leads to HOAs is completely foreign to me, it is no suprise that I can't comprehend the mindset that my marriage should be protected by telling other people how to marry.

Perfect analogy, Alex. It makes so much sense - if you can call it sense.

Since I live in a condo complex under the watchful Nazi eye of an HOA,I can say that yes...It is exactly the same thing.

I'm all for gay marriage. Why not?! The problem is the Religious Conservates. Not only are they rich and powerful but this very elite group runs our nation and makes the decisions. Their vote and politics rule the decision makers policies.

So remember - REGISTER TO VOTE AND HAVE YOU'RE OPINION HEARD.

You forgot the oft heard argument that gay marriage will increase the divorce rate!

I say allow gay marriage: why should straights have a monopoly on such misery?
