Fantasy Island

I heard this morning that the first season of Fantasy Island will be out on DVD. DVD Planet (http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_lis...205&format=DVD) lists the release date as November 15 - that's definitely on my buy list. I *loved* that show. It was fun to see the revolving guest cast, and the stories were cool too. They got a bit weird at the end with the whole "fight the devil" thing, but part of what I always loved about the show is that you never knew how exactly he got the info he did, but it wasn't beyond the realm of being able to find out the stuff if you had enough resources, which he certainly did. In talking about the show recently, we wondered what the rest of the people thought about the place, whether it was just a regular resort for them. Fantasies come true must cost a fortune, but with only 2 or 3 guests at a time, that can't be enough to sustain the costs, and there were always the other people in the background.

I can't remember where locally they shot the lagoon with the plane coming in and Tattoo ringing the bell (Huntington Gardens?), but I remember going there on a field trip at some point in school, and it was cool to see.

First Fantasy Island, next, Love Boat (the early seasons)!

Was some of it filmed at the Huntington Gardens? I thought I remembered that as well.

I have to say, I spent, gosh, was it Wednesday nights? watching this show with my folks. First was Love Boat, right? Then Fantasy Island?

I would love to watch these old shows. I also trip out remembering the people who were on it.

One that sticks out in my mind~ Billy Crystal as 'The Kissing Bandit'.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who was into this...the kids just don't understand....

Now if they come out with a DVD of the second go-around of "Fantasy Island"; that I would like. With Malcolm McDowell as Mr. Rourk and the ever-so-luscious Mädchen Amick (she was so hot in this show) as well as the rest of the great cast (Edward Hibbert, Louis Lombardi, Sylvia Sidney (in her final role), and Fyvush Finkel). Fun twist on the original.

The opening sequence was indeed filmed at the LA Arboretum. (301. N. Baldwin Ave, Arcadia). After the first season, they built a replica on the studio lot of the Queen Anne cottage with the tower that Tatoo would ring the bell from. (The plane flying in was stock footage)

The Arboretum can also be seen in many films including; "The African Queen", "The Road to Singapore", "Anaconda", and "The Lost World".
