How big a Star Trek fan are you?

Enough to want this?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...s=dvd&v=glance

I'm a little curious as to who they're targeting. Any big Star Trek fan will probably have gotten quite a bit of what's included in the set, so why would they buy it again? Anyone who hasn't bought any of it probably isn't a big enough fan or has enough resources to be spending around $2,500 to $3,000 (if you can find it on sale from the $4,000 list price) at one time.

We have all of the classic Trek episodes, all the Next Generation episodes and all the movies. I think we have all of DS9, but I can't remember. We have no interest in getting Voyager, and I'd only be interested in the first season of Enterprise. So here's $3,000 I don't have to spend!

This happens a lot, a studio comes out with bits of a series in piecemeal for a while and then repackages it all one all of the material is produced. Sometimes they add a few extras, sometimes they don't. But in many cases, it works well as the die-hards, even if they've got the previous versions, either want ALL versions, or they sell the piecemeal ones in the secondary market (i.e., Ebay) in favor of the "definitive" collection. Voila, they've just sold people something they've already bought once, at little to no extra cost to them. Not a bad deal.

But most of the time, it's at most a few to a dozen DVDs and a couple hundred dollars. $2-$4k? Not sure if the formula will quite work in that range.

X-mas must be coming.

I was just at Costco and they had all these DVD mega-sets like this one there. All of 'Buffy' and all of 'Sex and the City' etc. I'm not sure if Star Trek was one of them.

If I was a huge fan, I'd want it. But I'm only a TNG person.

I'm a pretty big fan, although mostly of the original series and the movies. Still, as cool as this would be to own, I don't think I could justify that kind of cost. I'm sure they will sell a decent amount though.

You're right about who would or would not buy this collection. I'm a big Star Trek fan, but don't think I would ever watch the entire collection of 212 discs.

With that amount of money, I would rather buy another form of shelf-space fillers, like say the Robert Olszewski Disneyland miniatures.

From a business/sales stand point, The Ultimate Star Trek Collection is a brilliant strategy: Create a grouped collection of existing product without any new manufacturing costs to reap a bigger sale.

Yeah, I was noticing that in the image they provide - it's just all the box sets, together. Not even any new packaging to link it all.

There may be some freaky fans out there that haven't purchased DVDs yet, but I don't think there are many.

But like Daniel said, they don't stand to lose anything, so why not?

I'm wondering how much it would cost to buy all those seperately but am too lazy to check.

Well, as it happens I'm a big Star Trek fan who doesn't yet own any DVDs of any of the TV series. I love original and TNG. But .... I will never have enough time on my hands to watch an entire multiple season series of TV shows that I have already seen.

I would pay exactly $400 for the complete set of every TV show ever aired - - - for FREE on TV.

Who purchased this?

Apparently no one.

I added it to my Amazon cart just to see the "Other people that bought this also bought..." stuff. Guess what? That's not what it said. This item had "People that VIEWED this item also looked at".

Interesting.
