![]() My Grandma's house was broken into day before yesterday. They stole jewelry, my Grandfather's Navy uniform and a book of navy photos from that era, spoons, glass frogs (antiques that held flowers - a large collection). They went through and vandalized everything they could - dumping everything out of all the cupboards, making a large mess. They made off with her social security card, blank checks, and who knows what else as my Grandma is getting a bit senile and doesn't remember what was in the brown box with latches - clearly soemthing was but what? Then - to top it off, they plugged in a curling iron, wrapped it in a matress pad, piled blankets on top, and left... clearly attempting to burn the place down.
I am so outragously angry! How can people be so cruel? F-ing people. Probably kids they think because they left a bag that was had a bunch of chocolate in there (that they also stole). They took photos out of their frames (do people hide money behind pictures?) - destroyed files - broke glass... ... and wore gloves apparently as the only sort of print they could find was on a lightbulb in the back of the house that had been undone. Luckily, my Grandma was not home at the time! I'm glad she came home when she did - with the curling iron and all - (it made a perfect curling iron burn mark on the comforter - dark brown and crispy!) I worry that they know they left stuff behind and they'll be back. My Grandma doesn't seem to phased by it - except that she cussed - my Mom asked how she was doing and her reply was "sh!ttty!". Grandma just doesn't cuss ya see. It makes me feel vulnerable - it could happen to us too ya know. Better be sure to lock every window and door. What was that? Out there? ... that sort of thing. Not so bad now - but yesterday when I got home from work only a few hours after being in her home and hearing about it first hand - it can shake a person. So - please wish my Grandma good thoughts and that the moron asshat(s) that did this get theirs and then some. F-ing assholes. |

GRRR.
The items they took seem so personal. Any family with a grudge? Good thoughts to Grandma. |

When I had stuff stolen out of a Public Storage facility, they used bills from a file folder to steal my identity. Make sure that someone keeps an eye on that for your grandma. They may try to open credit cards and such if they grabbed that kind of stuff from her house...

Asshat doesn't even cover it. It's bad enough that people steal things, but I just don't understand the destruction-for-destruction's-sake. I can't fathom how some enter's a strangers home and, after having taken what they wanted, makes a mess just to ice the cake. One last fvck you to the residents.
In addition to the usual identity theft issues, also keep a careful eye on her social security and/or pension checks. Rerouting existing sources of income is even easier than generating new ones. In the meantime, make yourself a cup of tea and soak up the swanky vibes headed your way.

I share the sentiment of the past posters.
This is horrible. Good points about the identity theft as well as the re-routing of the social security checks. It is a horrible feeling to be violated in that way. In your home and in GC's case, your identity. I have heard that people, and if I recall mostly teens, do break things just for the fun of it. But, if they took the other things, well, possibly they want to see what they can get for them. Low lifes hang with low lifes, you know? My family laughs at me but I leave a radio playing when I run out for a bit. But, it does work because my husband came home and was mighty sore that no one let him in, he heard the radio and thought someone was home. You could have the police come out and check her house. Can you request that they do checks on her since you have a fear they might come back?

Lower than pond scum.
I'm sorry to hear this. Is anyone staying with Grandma? I'm sure she feels violated and scared. Lowest of lowlifes.
